"The New Plan"
For project four the goal was to investigate a topic of interest to me and then interview at least three different people about that that topic. We were encouraged to ask the interviewees open-ended questions so they could give a thoughtful response that could be edited down to about thirty seconds. For my topic I choose to research Bradley’s new Alcohol Action Plan to see how people were feeling about it. I interviewed the director of the Wellness office, who also on the board that created the plan, a male Bradley student in the greek community, and a mother of a Bradley student. I felt that my choice of interviewees covered enough variety between the types of people that are mostly affected by this new plan.
At first I struggled trying to come up with an interface because I really wanted to display the document version of the plan, but honestly it wasn’t visually appealing at all so I was forced to take a different route. I ended up going with a bar interface to capture the essence of what the alcohol plan is trying to reduce, so in a way the interface is in high contrast with what the topic is actually about. I made the bar and all the background elements different tints of blue because it seems reminiscent of the popular “absolute bar.” I used a lot of repetition with the shot glasses and vodka bottles to keep the interface simple, but to also give it unity. I switched up the colors of the vodka bottles to help add some variety. I keep my buttons simple, using three shot glasses at the bottom right of the stage. And the last element I added was text. I wanted certain parts of the question to stand out so I changed the colors of certain words so that even if you didn’t read the whole question, you would still look at the words that stand out and have an idea of what the question references. I also used white text for the interviewee names and made them italic to add emphasis.
