Project 1 Media

The media I used for this animation were vector images I created in Adobe Illustrator and photographs I took around campus. I was required incorporate original photographs, images traced in Flash, and vector images created in Illustrator. Each piece of media started out from one of the photographs. For example, for my vector image, I took a picture of the street on campus where the activity fair is located. I then imported that picture into Illustrator to use as a reference. I locked the image in place and created my vector image by tracing over it with the pen tool. For time and design purposes I kept my vector recreation very simple, for this particular image was to serve as the background and didn’t need to complex in design. Below is the original picture I took, on the left, and then to right of it is the vector image.

The next image transformation was a trace done in Flash using four photographs of myself staring off in different directions. However, before importing them into the Flash library I opened the images in Adobe Photoshop to cut out the backgrounds. The images were imported into Flash as bitmaps where I would then use the “trace bitmap” function. Tracing a bitmap changes it into vectorized shapes, similar to the first example I discussed only the program does it for you. You can control how detailed the trace is by inputting the minimum pixel area and how many colors are to be used. Once the image was traced to my liking, I converted it into a symbol. Below is one of the original photographs and the traced image to the right of it.
